Dividing each share into several and lowering the price in proportion; the company's value and each holder's stake stay the same.
What changes with a split?
In a 4-for-1 split one share becomes four and the price becomes a quarter. A lower share price makes the stock easier to buy in small amounts.
A reverse split combines several shares into one, often to meet a listing's minimum price. Compare prices across a split only after adjusting by its ratio.
