A company buying its own shares in the market, which lowers the share count and raises each share's claim on the business.
Where are buyback amounts reported?
US listed companies report the cash spent on buybacks and the shares bought in their quarterly (10-Q) and annual (10-K) reports.
An authorisation is only a ceiling on what may be bought; what was actually bought appears in the quarterly report.
