STOCK Act

Also called Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act

A 2012 US law that makes members of Congress and senior officials disclose their stock trades within 45 days.

When must members of Congress report a trade?

The STOCK Act bars members from trading on information learned in office and makes their trades public. It covers stock, bond and similar trades over $1,000 by Representatives, Senators, their spouses and dependent children.

A Periodic Transaction Report is due within 30 days of learning of the trade and no later than 45 days after it. A late report carries a $200 fee, and late reports are not rare.

Whalegun gathers House and Senate reports every day, shows them by member, and computes the days between each trade and its report. A trade reported after more than 45 days is marked as past the deadline.
