Jobs report
Also called Employment Situation, nonfarm payrolls, unemployment rate
The Bureau of Labor Statistics report, usually released on the first Friday of the month, with the change in nonfarm payrolls and the unemployment rate.
What does the jobs report show?
Nonfarm payrolls show how many jobs outside farming were added or lost in the month. The unemployment rate comes from a separate household survey.
The two previous months are revised with each report, so published numbers often change later. It bears on Fed decisions, and markets tend to move more on release days.
